BMW at 120km/hr kills man on Tilak Marg

A trainee doctor, who was driving his BMW car at 120km/hr, crashed his sedan into an Eeco car, in Tilak Marg area in New Delhi district at around 1.20 am on Monday, killing the driver of the van.

The accident took place at the Bhagwan Das Road -Tilak Marg crossing traffic signal. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Rafiq, 25, a resident of east Delhi's Mandawali. Police said the BMW driver had jumped the traffic signal and collided with the Eeco car.

The errant BMW driver, identified as Ayush Arora, a native of Rohtak in Haryana, was apprehended by constable Sukender, who was patrolling the area.

A case of rash and negligent driving causing death was registered against Arora, who reportedly is a trainee doctor at his father's hospital in Rohtak. He escaped unhurt in the accident and was later released on bail, said police.

Rafiq, according to a senior police officer, was on his way to a mall in Vasant Vihar when the BMW that was coming from Barakhamba Road side rammed into the driver's side of the Eeco.

"The impact of the hit was such that Rafiq was thrown out of his car through the front windscreen. His car took a left turn towards the Supreme Court and caught fire after hitting the road divider. Rafiq, who suffered multiple injuries, was rushed to Lok Nayak hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival," said the senior officer.

Mohammad Salim, Rafiq’s brother-in-law, alleged that the police treated Arora like a guest and did not even check if he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Rafiq lived with his wife and five kids at Mandawali.
