Brinda slams SC stand on honour Killing

CPM Member Brinda Karat on Friday criticised the Supreme Court judgement of Thursday commuting the death sentence of the accused in an honour killing of an Ezhava boy from Kerala who married an upper-caste girl from UP and lived in Mumbai.

Calling it a “gigantic step backward” in terms of upholding the values of social reforms, she raised the issue during Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha.

Mandatory education

Government is formulating a legislation for mandatory accreditation of every educational institution for quality and UGC has already formulated regulations in this regard, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal told Rajya Sabha.

Up fertilizer subsidy

Subsidised fertilizers from Uttar Pradesh were going to other countries on which the state government must have control, said Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Srikant Jena in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. He said the kind of subsidy being given to UP is “unthinkable”.
