Car runs over toddler in parking lot in NE Delhi

A 14-month-old toddler was killed when a Maruti Swift car ran over her in a parking lot in northeast Delhi’s Karawal Nagar, police said.

A 14-month-old toddler was killed when a Maruti Swift car ran over her in a parking lot in northeast Delhi’s Karawal Nagar, police said.

The accident took place on Saturday evening when the victim was playing in the parking lot where her father works as a parking attendant.

The deceased was identified as Manisha. Police said the victim’s parents are from Nepal and they live in a rented accommodation in Karawal Nagar. The errant car driver fled the scene after the accident, leaving behind his vehicle.

A police officer said Manisha’s father, Anand, had taken her to the parking lot with him.

Anand left Manisha unattended while he attended to his duties. In the meantime, a Swift car arrived at the parking lot. The driver was reversing his vehicle when it crushed Manisha.

“The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. A case was registered against the errant car driver whose identity could not be disclosed till Sunday evening,” said the officer.
