The cameras will be installed at Ghazipur, Maharajpur and Noida link road borders. "We are taking this step as it is easy for criminals to cross over to Uttar Pradesh after committing crimes in Delhi. Every vehicle entering and exiting Delhi from these borders will be captured. The cameras can scan the registration numbers of vehicles and capture the faces of drivers," a senior police officer said.

The east district police have taken the initiative as the three borders come in their jurisdiction. "There are several unmanned borders as well. It is not possible to install CCTVs everywhere but we will secure those borders by placing pickets," the officer added.

A survey of two borders —Ghazipur and Maharajpur — has already been completed and police plan to install 21 cameras at each one.

"At times, there are brawls at the MCD toll plaza and we can identify such people with the help of cameras," the officer added. A survey of the busy Noida border is next in line. After this project, police will start surveying markets where cameras need to be installed.
