"The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved six-laning of the Jalandhar-Amritsar section under the NHDP Phase 2 on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis," an official statement said.

The cost of the project includes the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities, the statement said, adding that the total length of the road would be about 20 km.

"The project will expedite improvement of infrastructure and reduce the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying between Jalandhar and Amritsar," the statement added. The project covers Jalandhar and Kapurthala districts.
