It will install a new software that will help to put the civic body’s complete electricity and water network on an e-platform.

This will allow it to have an all-round view of its 70,000 customers' consumption history, besides offering a host of facilities to them.

The NDMC will be able to directly monitor all sub-stations, power poles and consumption history of its customers.

"The new system will ensure all consumers receive accurate and consolidated bills for electricity and water," said a senior NDMC official.

"The customised bills will even come along with a 'bill graph' explaining how one's energy consumption is varying with time," the official said.

The civic body will also suggest ways to conserve energy and let customers choose their own billing cycles.

As part of the automation system, NDMC will enhance its call centre's efficiency. The staff will have complete access to a customer's account history, which will speed up the redressal process.

"We will keep record of the consumption pattern of power and water of all consumers over a long period of time. Each consumer will have a profile, for instance, the family size, average consumption, occupation etc," added the official.

If there is a sudden increase in bill, it will be conveyed to the consumer.

The system, said NDMC officials, would ensure bill accuracy by automatically identifying and resolving issues before sending out billing statements.

All this, while each consumer will also have complete access to his or her own consumption and billing history.

The NDMC has selected IT firm Vayam Technologies Ltd to assist and implement the project.

The project was approved last month.

The civic body says that the initiative will also help enable better forecast of energy, water requirements and consumption and reduce any loss of energy as any theft or misuse will be easily detected by the system.
