The Delhi government charges 30% as entertainment tax on cinema tickets and according to councillors of the corporation, they should be given a share of it to use for development.
“The government charges a high rate of tax on cinema tickets. Since we give civic facilities to multiplexes, we should be getting a share of it,” said Mahender Nagpal, Leader of the House, North Municipal Corporation.
Officials, however, said that entertainment tax was under the jurisdiction of the state government and the corporation did not have any legal right to ask for it.
