The police said Sanjeev Saxena, alleged former aide of Amar Singh — then a Samajwadi Party leader — had so far remained elusive on who had handed him the cash. Saxena was arrested on Sunday.

A police source, however, claimed: “We have tracked down banks from which the money was withdrawn.” He said a few banks had already been identified in UP.

“Various official seals on the currency notes have led us to unravel the banks’ identities. The money was withdrawn in parts. We’re still figuring out who withdrew this money," he said.
