Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja sought the presence of the gangster before the court on February 11.

The court had issued a similar production warrant against Salem for today after an intimation was sent on behalf of the Mumbai police without specifying the disease that the accused was indisposed.

Salem was extradited from Portugal in 2005 to face trial in various cases including the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts.

The court of CMM, where the accused is being tried along with others for making extortion calls to a city businessman in 2002, has already started recording statement of witnesses.

The statement of Rajat Nagrath, who had filed a complaint against Salem and others in 2002 with the Delhi Police's Special Cell alleging the gangster was demanding Rs five crore as protection money, was recorded in-camera on December 15 following his request.

Three other accused C P Rai, Istiyaq Ahmed and Sadiq Ali, who are out on bail, were, however, present during the brief court proceedings.
