A Delhi court on Thursday issued summons against a senior police officer who failed to appear before it to depose in a case against three persons under the Official Secrets Act.

Cheema is required to depose in the case registered against Irfan Kausar and Mohd Ramazan on September seven, 2005.

Both the accused were arrested by the Delhi police's Special Cell for allegedly passing on secret documents, including sketches, maps and telephone details through emails to their handlers in Pakistan from a cyber cafe in south Delhi.

"This case falls in the category of 20 oldest cases and the accused are in custody. The case is required to be decided expeditiously. Issue summons against the officer (DCP) through Commissioner of Police," Additional Sessions Judge Nivedita Anil Sharma said.

The court ordered issuance of summons against the then Deputy Commissioner of Police A S Cheema, who is now posted in Mizoram, and sought his presence before it on February 20.

The court was forced to issue summons through the police chief as the officer had failed to appear before it on a number of occasions despite the notices.
