According to police, Karan Pal Singh (17) and his younger sister Ishika Kaur (13), as they were known at school were crushed to death by a DTC bus at 8:30 am, five minutes after the siblings left their Ashok Vihar residence.

“The boy was to drop his sister at the Mata Jai Kaur Public School,” said a police officer.

Police said the incident occurred at Bharat Nagar when Singh failed to dodge an oncoming hawker’s cart. “They were near their school, when Singh suddenly noticed a cart approaching him from the side; he failed to control his bike after swerving to avoid the cart.”

Police said the duo fell after the bike slipped on the road.

“They were crushed beneath the tyres of the DTC bus which was approaching from the opposite side,” said the officer.

According to police, the driver of the bus, Ramesh Kumar has been arrested and a case of criminal negligence has been registered at the Bharat Nagar Police Station.
