The case came to light on Monday after an NGO approached the Samaipur Badli police station and sought protection for the girl who, according to them, was being victimised and subjected to child labour by the caretaker of the centre where she was staying.

On the NGO’s complaint and the girl’s statement, a case under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Samaipur Badli police station and the caretaker, one Ibrahim, was arrested. He was produced before a city court which sent him to jail.

The victim was staying in the child care centre for the past five years, the police said. In her statement before the child welfare committee (CWC), the girl alleged that Ibrahim used to take her to his home where he forced her to do household work and rape her.

“The matter came to the light when NGO members made a surprise visit to the centre and learnt that one of the girls was at his house,” said the police.
