Delhi Police get their first batch of cyber experts

With a whopping 100 per cent increase in cyber crimes annually, the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police will require more trained personnel to fight white collar crimes.

With a whopping 100 per cent increase in cyber crimes annually, the Cyber Cell of Delhi Police will require more trained personnel to fight white collar crimes. In a first-of-its-kind effort, the first batch of 100 investigating officers of Delhi Police and two officers of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were handed certificates in ‘Cyber Crime Investigation and Computer Forensics’ on Tuesday.

The officials had undergone a six-weeks training programme at the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGISPU). “From 2004 till now there has been 400 per cent increase in cyber crimes. Since terrorists and criminals are increasingly using computers to accomplished terrorists attacks, threats and scams, we need police officers who are not only computer savvy but are also able to investigate cyber crimes” said Commissioner of PoliceY.S. Dadwal. He said 100 more officers would undergo similar training.

The officers were given training in hardware and software, computer networks, cyber crime, digital fraud, incident response systems, computer forensics fundamentals, cyber law, e-mail crime and cyber forensics, credit card frauds and e-mail tracing among others.
