Delhi: Taekwondo champion loses both his legs to bullet injuries

A 16-year-old taekwondo champion, who was shot at in northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura area last week, is stated to be in a critical condition after doctors had to amputate both his legs, police said today.

A 16-year-old taekwondo champion, who was shot at in northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura area last week, is reportedly in a critical condition as doctors had to amputate both his legs in order to keep him alive, police said on Monday.

On June 21, unidentified assailants opened fire at Rajan and his father Kailash. While the father died on the spot, Rajan sustained three bullet injuries, a police official said.

The bullet injuries caused severe nerve damage, for which his one leg was amputated on Wednesday and the other two days later, said the official.

Police are yet to track down the accused and ascertain the motive behind the act. During interrogation, it also came to light that Rajan’s elder brother was murdered around a year ago, the official added.
