Dentist ‘molested’ by cardiologist in Delhi

A 30-year-old dentist was allegedly molested by a cardiologist at the Max Super Speciality Hospital at Saket in south Delhi on Sunday.

The woman and her husband, who is a doctor, had gone for a check-up at a heart camp organised by the hospital, said the police. “She said while examining her, the cardiologist tried to act indecent and she objected to it,” said a police officer on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media. The dentist rushed to her husband, who was waiting at the reception.

The couple, the police officer said, brought the matter to the notice of the hospital management and demanded an apology from the cardiologist.

The doctor, however, claimed that he was doing his work and had not acted in an indecent manner, the officer said. The police were informed as the couple, who run a clinic in south Delhi, remained firm on their demand. Some senior officers from Saket police station arrived at the hospital and managed to calm the couple down, the officer said.

The couple then went to the police station and lodged a complaint. A case of attempt to outrage a woman’s modesty was registered against the senior resident, who was arrested and later released on bail.

“The alleged incident unfortunately happened as an unintentional accident while physical examination of the patient was being done in a heart check-up camp,” a statement released by the hospital said.

The hospital has a zero tolerance policy towards physical misdemeanour and an internal enquiry was already on, it said.
