DJB digs up road, earns residents' ire
That most areas in Vasant Kunj face regular problems is not new. But for residents of block D1 and D2, the current water scarcity problem cropped up when the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) tried to sort out some other problem.
"There is a huge pit that the DJB has dug up right in front of my house. There is apparently some water complaint at the end of our block but DJB dug up at several other places trying to find out the fault," said Munish Dayal, a resident of D1 block.
Apart from the one huge pit in front of his house, the DJB has dug up at least three other points in the network "allegedly to identify where the problem arises", residents claimed.
The digging has been going on for several days to no avail.
"Basically, nobody knows what DJB is doing. Instead of solving problems, the DJB has created another for us," Dayal added.
The problem is not restricted to last few days and the two blocks have faced it on and off for past 5-6 years at least. The resident welfare association (RWA) has been constantly talking with DJB with not much encouraging results.
"We have taken up the issue with DJB officials literally every day. But it has not resulted in anything," RWA office bearer Santosh Sharma said.
Even after a lot of hassles, D1 and D2 blocks did get any water on Monday. DJB sent tankers on Tuesday and the areas finally got water on Wednesday.
Despite repeated efforts, the DJB officials did not respond to HT.
