With pressure mounting to complete the Commonwealth Games projects on time, the Centre on Thursday appointed 10 senior officials to oversee preparation of major Games venues, a move seen as further stripping OC chairman, Suresh Kalmadi of his powers. The officers have been empowered to take decisions on the spot to tie-up any loose ends and resolve any conflicts before the games, the Cabinet Secretariat said in its order. The Cabinet Secretary has made it clear that these officers may discuss with the Sports Secretary when decisions have financial implications. Decisions by these officials will have to be complied with by the executing agencies.
