For Gen. Vijay Krishna Bharadwaj, a 67-year-old resident of Old Gupta Colony, located adjacent the New Police Lines, it had seemed like a usual morning — walking his black Dachshund before a game of badminton with friends.

“It’s more upsetting than unusual. I’ve been following the same routine for the past three or four years. The word ‘army’ was written prominently on the number plate, even that didn’t seem to matter to the thieves,” Gen. Bharadwaj complained.

Three police pickets are located on the stretch leading to Bonta Park.

The area is a popular hangout for morning and evening walkers, residing within a radius of three to five kilometres of it, alike. According to Gen. Bharadwaj, who has been visiting the ridge for the past decade, he had parked his beige 1998-model Maruti 800 outside it around 8am.
