Ex-MLA seeks newspapers, TV in jail

A Delhi court on Monday sought a response from the Tihar jail authorities on a plea by former Delhi MLA Ranbir Singh Kharb seeking facilities like TV and newspapers as available to an ex-legislator during judicial custody.

A Delhi court on Monday sought a response from the Tihar jail authorities on a plea by former Delhi MLA Ranbir Singh Kharb seeking facilities like TV and newspapers as available to an ex-legislator during judicial custody.

Kharb is accused of duping investors of over Rs 3 crore through a chit-fund company, Kharb submitted through an application filed by his counsel S.K. Kapoor that he should be provided all the facilities, including television sets and newspapers, as are available to B-category prisoners.

The accused is a former MLA and deserved to be given all the amenities during his incarceration, he said.

Taking his plea into account, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate R.K. Tripathi issued notice to Tihar jail Superintendent, directing him to file his reply on July one.
