Ex VC of JNU awarded by French government

Former Jamia Millia Islamia University Vice Chancellor Mushirul Hasan was today conferred the 'Officer in the Order of Palmes Academiques' award by the French Government for his contribution in building linkages between India and France in the field of education.

The award was given away by French Ambassador to India Jerome Bonnafont.

Former vice chancellor of Uttarakhand Technical University Vinay Kumar Tewari was also given the honour of 'Officer in the Order of Palmes Academiques' award by the French Ambassador on the occasion of the French National Day celebration.

Speaking on the occasion, Bonnafont said both the individuals have been instrumental in building linkages between India and France in the field of education.

He said both the countries are working in several areas of mutual interest and "we are multiplying them".

The Ambassador said their "aim is to attract 2,000 to 4,000 Indian students to French universities in the coming years.

He said Prof Hasan has taught in a number of French universities. During his tenure as the vice chancellor, he actively promoted India-France academic exchanges while Jamia Millia Islamia University signed several MoUs with the French institutes.

Likewise, Prof Tewari was instrumental in setting up many collaborative projects between France and India.

He was part of the Indian delegation of vice chancellors and IIT directors who visited Nice and Paris in September 2006 for the Indo French cluster meet that resulted in the creation of the Indo-French consortium of universities, Bonnafont said.
