A 55-year-old businessman and his family were drugged and robbed of valuables estimated to be worth lakhs by their recently hired domestic help in west Delhi on Thursday, the police said.

“The incident was reported from Ramesh Kochar's residence in Mianwali’s Bhairon Enclave area at 9.30am. The prime suspect is Karan, who was hired by the Kochars as a domestic help four days ago," said V Ranganathan, deputy commissioner of police (west).
The police said Kochar’s soon-to-be in-laws informed them about the incident.
“Kochar’s son Rajiv got engaged recently. His in-laws realised something was amiss when no one answered repeated phone calls on the landline. Rajiv’s would-be father-in-law called the police after he found Rajiv and his parents unconscious at the house,” said a senior police officer.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the family ate something that was laced with sedatives before being robbed.
“We have reason to believe that Karan drugged the family before he ransacked the house. The Kochars were taken to the adjacent Balaji Action hospital where they are recovering," DCP Renganathan said, adding a case will be registered after the Kochars give statements.
