Everything changed on Sunday morning.

The car Singh was travelling in met with an accident. He died and so did three of his cousins.

The four were killed in an accident near Ansal Plaza mall in South Delhi.

Their Hyundai Accent, heading towards ISBT, turned turtle and rolled over at least four times after ramming into a road divider.

The deceased were identified as Sarabjeet Singh (23), whose head was severed in the incident; Amarjeet Singh (28); Gurleen Singh and Taranjeet Singh (both 26).

Taranjeet’s friend Akhilesh Sharma (27) who was also in the car survived.

The accident

The accident occurred around 12.30 a.m. on August Kranti Marg, police said. While the eyewitnesses and family members have claimed the accident occurred because of dug up soil and sever pipes lying unattended on the road, the police claim over-speeding was the cause of the accident.

“The road is very narrow at the place where dug up soil and three-four concrete sever pipes are lying,” said Jaspal Singh, Sarabjeet's relative.

Surjeet Singh, Sarabjeet’s father, had contested the 2004 MP elections on a BSP ticket and lost.

Meanwhile, the police registered a case of negligence in Hauz Khas Police Station and confiscated the vehicle. Sarabjeet was speeding, police said.

Taranjeet and Akhilesh had to catch a bus for Ludhiana and were headed to ISBT from their Gautam Nagar residence, police said. "Sarabjeet lost control of the speeding car and hit the road divider, the car flipped and turned turtle,” said a senior police officer.

The police said a passerby called the PCR.

While Sarabjeet died on the spot, the other three succumbed to injuries at AIIMS Trauma Centre. Akhilesh, who has sustained multiple fractures, is stated to be critical.

Vikrant Singh, an eyewitness, said he was returning to his Andrews Ganj police colony residence when he saw a car rolling over the road divider.
