Last month too, the residents had blocked traffic on the Gurgaon-Fairdabad Road to register their protest against the stink.

According to Ambika Agarwal, a resident of DLF City (Phase I) and wife of a managing director of a multinational IT company, residents, including CEO MakeMyTrip.com, CEO Discovery Channel, director Epicurean Hospitality, CEO and Chairman, MSJ Capital and eminent chartered accountants, lawyers, retired IAS and heads of many organisations would take part in the protest rally on September 22 at Kachra Chowk.

The residents have been living in highly unhygienic conditions because of the foul smell emanating from the garbage dump.

"I have not sat in my garden for over a year," said a housewife. "Guests ask me about the foul smell. I feel so embarrassed. We were all forced to come out on the streets to protest," she said.

"Every time my son coughs and sneezes, I curse the dump. I do not feel like sending him out to play because of the stench," said another resident. "We do not know what to do about the flies."

People living around the dump said many cases of respiratory diseases have been reported in children.
