An 18-year-old woman from Shillong was allegedly molested by a youth who also recorded video clips of her in the nude in south Delhi’s Vasant Vihar on Monday, police said.

An 18-year-old woman from Shillong was allegedly molested by a youth who also recorded video clips of her in the nude in south Delhi’s Vasant Vihar on Monday, police said.

The case emerged after the woman called the police control room at around 5.30am.

In her complaint, she alleged that a 22-year-old man took nude videos of her at a flat in Munirka near Vasant Vihar during a friend's birthday party. She also alleged that she was forced to drink alcohol at the party.

On the basis of her complaint, an FIR (375/2015) under sections 354 (molestation) and 325 (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), was registered against the youth, identified as Amit Kumar, at the Vasant Vihar police station. Amit, a resident of Munirka, was taken into police custody for questioning, even though there was no official confirmation regarding his arrest.

Prem Nath, deputy commissioner of police (south), said, “We have registered a case and are looking into the matter.”

A senior police officer said that the woman had arrived in Delhi some weeks ago to meet her relatives who live in south Delhi’s Green Park. During her stay, she came in contact with a woman who is also from Meghalaya. The two soon became close friends and they accompanied each other while going out for shopping or a party.

On Sunday night, the woman in her complaint told police that she accompanied her friend to a party in a flat in Munirka. Amit, friend of the complainant’s friend, was also present in the party.

“During the party, the woman was made to drink alcohol. There, Amit molested her and recorded objectionable videos of her while she was under the influence of alcohol. He beat her up when she protested,” said the officer.

Even as the FIR was registered against Amit, the woman on Tuesday approached the police to inform them that she wanted to withdraw her case as her issue with Amit was settled amicably. Senior officers, however, told her that she will have to file a petition in Delhi high court for cancellation of the FIR.
