Sources said the PSOs of Pillai have started carrying AK-47s, instead of earlier small arms, wherever he goes after a review of his security by concerned officials.

The decision to upgrade the weapons of PSOs have taken following Intelligence inputs that the Left Wing extremists may try to attack him, especially after the killing of top Maoists leader Azad.

Sixty-year-old Pillai currently enjoys 'Y' category security with an escort vehicle and two PSOs.
