Govt calls all-party meet ahead of monsoon session

The government has called an-all party meeting on August 1 to discuss the smooth passage of key bills, including those on food security and land acquisition during the monsoon session of Parliament, set to beginning on August 5.

The government has called an all-party meeting on August 1 to discuss the smooth passage of key bills, including those on food security and land acquisition during the monsoon session of Parliament, set to beginning on August 5.

Home minister Sushilkumar Shinde, who is the leader of Lok Sabha, finance minister P Chidambaram, parliamentary affairs minister Kamal Nath will be among those representing the government at the meeting, sources said.

The session, to be held from August 5 to 30, has just 16 working days at a time when there are 116 pending legislations.

The passage of the food security ordinance is expected to take precedence over other legislative business.
