HT is No 1 in Delhi, NCR. Once again

Your favourite daily has once again been declared the leading newspaper of Delhi and the national capital region (NCR) in the latest round (2011 Q3) of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) released by the Media Research Users' Council Thursday.

The daily readership (average issue readership, or AIR) of HT in Delhi-NCR is 22.21 lakh, which is 67,000 more than that of its closest competitor, The Times of India (ToI). Comparing figures year-on-year (vs IRS, 2010 Q3), HT's readership has increased 4%, while ToI has registered 1% growth.

Further, HT has once again reaffirmed its position as the newspaper of choice among affluent and educated households, having 1.71 lakh, or 12%, more daily readership in SEC A than ToI.

With this, HT has established itself as the most-read newspaper of Delhi-NCR for the seventh time in a row in terms of total readership (TR).

The results, though hardly surprising, serve as heartening evidence that our readers still believe in good-old public-interest journalism. Over the last year, we have been the first to report on several local, national and international stories and have taken up the issues that matter with the powers that be. We've also rolled out initiatives like Delhi 100, celebrating our city's centenary as the national capital and seeking a roadmap for a better future.

The good news doesn't end here. In Mumbai, HT has consolidated its position as the No. 2 broadsheet daily. It continues to be the fastest growing English daily and the only one to have grown in 12 of the last 13 IRS rounds. In fact, HT has grown by 27% (to a 7.51 lakh daily readership) in the last one year, while ToI has dipped 2% in the same period.

Nationally, HT has grown its daily readership by 2.16 lakh readers in the last one year, which is the highest growth among all English dailies.

Mint, HT Media's business daily, has further consolidated its No. 2 position with 2.53 lakh daily readers, growing by 41% over last year.

Hindustan, the group's Hindi daily, strengthened its No. 2 position among all newspapers in India with a huge 3.75 crore TR, an addition of 44 lakh readers in the last year.
