New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah said that people ridicule him for being in-charge of “gobar-gas ministry” but it would be the new energy which will save the world from global warming effects.

New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday said that people ridicule him for being in-charge of “gobar-gas ministry” but it would be the new energy which will save the world from global warming effects.

“I thank the Prime Minister for giving me this Ministry. In my own state people say that I have been given the ‘gobar gas´ Ministry’.

“But I tell them that this is the only Ministry which can save the day when all the glaciers are gone and there is hardly any rain,” Abdullah said while addressing the 4th South Asian Conference on Renewable Energy here.

Underling that new energy is the energy of future, he said that his ministry has stressed on the need to install new energy appliances in the Commonwealth Games complex.

“I tell my government that we are building a huge complex for the Commonwealth Games and now it is time for us to think that we can put some of these (new energy appliances) there, so that when people come from all over the world, they see a modern and futuristic India.”

Citing the example of use of green energy in the President’s House, Abdullah said, “I have requested the President to show it to all the Governors who visit the place. We would like to make every Raj Bhavan (Governor’s House) a centre for new energy.”
