Akkinapalli Subba Rao, working in the office of Commissioner of Income Tax in East Godavari District was also slapped with a fine of Rs 40,000 by the Special Judge for CBI cases, Vishakapatnam, a CBI official said on Thursday.

According to the agency, Rao was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant for releasing his school building, which was under attachment by the IT authorities and lifting of ban on bank accounts.

CBI had filed a chargesheet on January 29, 2004 and charges against the accused were framed on March 28, 2005.

The court in its order, which penalised him under two sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, also said that in case of default of payment of fine, Rao would have to undergo simple imprisonment of 6 months.
