India, China agree to end border dispute through talks

In a joint statement issued today after delegation level talks China said it understands India's aspiration for permanent UNSC seat as the South Asian neighbours agreed to resolve outstanding disputes at the earliest through talks.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao earlier on Thursday hoped for "strategic consensus" and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated that a strong partnership would contribute to long term peace and security in Asia.

Wen, who arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day visit, pitched for taking friendship between India and China to a higher level.
