Lal, who works as a security guard in a private nursery school near Moolchand Hospital, sustained serious spinal cord injuries in the accident because of which he has weakness in his legs and arms. Though he does not remember anything, Lal only keeps repeating in the ICU that he cannot move his legs.

“He has suffered multiple fractures in his cervical spine because of which he has developed partial paralysis of limbs. There is hardly any movement in his legs and arms,” said a senior doctor at AIIMS Trauma Centre. According to the doctors, there are 50 per cent chances of him being able to walk again.

Since Lal was the only earning member, his family is worried about his treatment. “Doctors have given us an estimate of R60,000 and R90,000. He was working with the school for the past 22 years, but nobody from the school has visited us so far," said Prem, his younger son.
