The two aircraft were taxiing towards the runway when the incident occurred; the 162 passengers aboard the Air India aircraft were safe.
Due to the fumes, the left portion of the Air India (flight number IC 863) developed cracks.
Due to the incident, a separate Air India aircraft had to be arranged to fly to Mumbai.
The flight later took off around 7.30 pm.
“It appears that a departing Jet Airways aircraft increased thrust while taxiing out resulting in a jet blast that caused damage to an Air India aircraft, parked at the adjacent bay,” a Delhi International Airport Limited spokesperson said.
“The matter has been referred to the DGCA that will investigate the incident.”
A jet blast can be so powerful it can even cause damage to concrete structures.
