‘Jilted lover’ killed woman, her family for refusing marriage

NEW DELHI: Three days after the bodies of a woman and her two daughters were found inside their home in Northeast Delhi’s Brahmpuri, the police on Thursday arrested two persons in connection with the case.

The bodies of Saira (55) and her two daughters— Mehrunisha (19) and Shabnam (9) — were found with their throats slit on June 5.

Investigation revealed that one Raheesuddin was in love with Mehrunisha but she loved another man in the locality.

Raheesuddin reportedly helped the family financially but after Mehrunisha refused his marriage proposal he planned to kill them. With help from his friend Javed, he allegedly murdered the family with a butcher knife, police said.

“It was clear that some insider was involved as the entry was friendly. Our teams questioned about 100 people and local inquiries revealed that one Raheesuddin used to visit the family frequently and was in one-sided love with Mehrunisha. A team was sent to track him down. He was arrested after raids,” DCP Northeast, Ajit Kumar Singla, said.

Raheesuddin admitted to have killed the family, police said. “He said he was in love with Mehrunisha but she had an affair with another man. This enraged him as he had been helping the family financially for the last two years. It is then that he conspired to kill the family. They went to the house to meet the family. After a brief conversation, they killed the three,” Singla said.

Saira married for a second time one Aslam in 2007 and Shabnam was born soon after. Mehrunisha was Saira’ s daughter from the first marriage. After Aslam’s death a few years ago, Mehrunisha started living with Saira.
