No one was injured in the incident and the escort’s driver and attendant came out in time after they saw fire from the engine. The Ambassador car was following LG Tejinder Khanna’s official vehicle.

Khanna was returning to his official residence Raj Niwas from Vasant Vihar when the incident was reported.

“The Lt. Governor was escorted by two Ambassador cars. When they reached Sabzi Mandi traffic signal, the second escort car caught fire. After detecting smoke from the engine, driver Vinod and three others who were inside the car rushed out,” said a senior police officer. They tried to douse the flames with the help of the car’s fire extinguisher but to no avail.

“Within minutes, the engine caught fire,” said the officer.

“The Lt Governor’s official vehicle proceeded without any glitch,” said the officer.

“Prima facie it does not seem there was a foul play but we are not taking any chances,” said the officer.
