When Gurwinder Singh landed at Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport on December 4, he expected a warm welcome by family and friends.

However, it was a Delhi Police team that accorded Singh a rather unexpected reception and arrested him for stealing a
bag from the airport nine months ago.
Singh, who initially refused to accept his involvement in the theft, confessed to the crime after he was shown CCTV footage in which he was flicking the bag.
“On March 12, Singh was taking a flight to Italy, where he works with a restaurant chain. In the Security Hold Area (SHA), where passengers put their hand baggage in the X-ray screener, Singh picked up another passenger’s bag intentionally,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to
the media.
The bag contained foreign currency, two ATM cards, a driving licence and the victim’s green card. Confirming the arrest, RA Sanjeev, deputy commissioner of police (airport) said, “We have arrested the accused, who hails from Punjab.”
Singh was produced before the court on Monday and was remanded to judicial custody.
