Man loses jewellery in station, gets it back

The Bareilly businessman had no hopes of getting back his bag of jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh that was stolen at New Delhi railway station a fortnight ago.

But railway police have recovered the loot and arrested two men for the theft.

Khandelwal, a steel and cement businessman, was about to board the Shramjeevi Express on February 2 with his sister Manvi Koolwal, whose bag contained, besides the jewellery, a cellphone and Rs 25,000.

“My sister was returning from a wedding in Mumbai. As we were loading the luggage, a man took our bag and ran away,” Khandewal said.

The police swung into action and arrested Mohammad Firoz, a resident of New Kondli. Firoz had received the jewellery from the other accused Sunil who had picked up the bag.

“We arrested the two accused and have recovered the jewellery from their possession,” said Satyendra Garg, additional CP (crime and railways).
