The police said that 10 students in the age group of seven-nine years were injured after Rajpal Sharma beat them up with a stick.

The incident occurred at 2.30 pm in New Ashok Nagar MCD Primary School. The students were at play when the distribution of the mid-day meal began.

The police said the teacher, Rajpal Sharma, could not bear the noise and lost his cool.

When the children continued to talk, he picked up a stick and started beating them.

“He thrashed the kids till the time they stopped shouting,” a senior police officer said.

Some of the victims started bleeding. The police was informed and the children, who belong to a nearby colony in New Ashok Nagar, were rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. Four of them suffered head injuries. Six escaped with minor wounds. All were discharged from the hospital after treatment.

The police have registered a case for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation at New Ashok Nagar police station and have arrested Sharma.

The MCD Education Committee Chairman, Prithviraj Sawney said, “The teacher has been suspended and an enquiry has been ordered. If the charges against him are proved, then he may face termination. The MCD will bear the expenses of the children’s treatment.”
