Mercury hovers above 40°C mark in Delhi

The summer kept up its hot spell on the national capital with the mercury continuing above the 40-degree mark for the last few days, making residents of the city sweat it out.

The summer kept up its hot spell on the national capital with the mercury continuing above the 40-degree mark for the last few days, making residents of the city sweat it out.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 42.4 degrees Celsius, over a degree more than Saturday's 40.6, and one degree above the normal for this point of season, Met Department said.

The minimum was recorded at 29.3 degrees, two degrees above normal, it said.

On Saturday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 28.1 degrees.

The weatherman has predicted a mainly clear sky with possibility of dust storms in some areas in the next 24 hours.

Maximum temperature is likely to be around 43 degrees and the minimum is expected to be at 30 degrees on Monday.

The month of May began with a sizzling 44.2 degrees, the season's highest.

In the past 10 years, the month of May has recorded maximum above 44 degrees five times. The record for the past ten years was 46 degrees, which was recorded on May 19, 2002.
