Ministry told to reveal fate of kerosene marking system

A vacation bench of Justice V.B. Gupta and Justice Manmohan on Monday asked the ministry to respond to Sahara Kalyan Samiti's petition by January 7, 2009.
Launched by the UPA Government with much fanfare in January 2007, to check diversion of PDS kerosene worth Rs 5,000 crore for adulteration of petrol and diesel, the scheme expires on December 31, 2008, if not extended further.
The government has not taken any decision to extend it so far, the petitioner said, adding it would hurt the common man, for whose benefit the scheme was introduced.
