The victim, identified as Rohit, took the extreme step of trying to hang himself from the ceiling fan in his room around 7pm after his repeated requests to pay fees for an academic course allegedly fell on deaf ears.

"I have just qualified my class XII examinations and want to pursue a bachelor's degree in Social Work from the IGNOU," Rohit explained. "Though the home is bound to bear all the expenses incurred as far its inmates' academic needs are concerned, my supervisor refused to do so."

Frustrated, Rohit decided to end his life, he claimed.

Police said they were informed about the incident by the home's administration and a police team rushed him to the the hospital. He was admitted for two days and discharged on Thursday afternoon.

The police said they were investigating the matter.
