This issue will be on the NAC table when it meets on Wednesday with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the chair.

There are many drafts, entitlements and costing means the subgroup will examine before presenting its report to NAC.

At the NAC’s meet on July 1, members agreed that 35 kg of foodgrains at Rs 3 per kg must be given under the proposed law. But there were differences on how to operationalise it.

When it meets on Wednesday, the panel has to consider the availability of foodgrains, cost of food subsidy and whether the recipients should only be those below poverty line.
