Speaking at a seminar — Security Today Knowledge Summit — Pillai warned against "mindless implementation of security measures".

"Just placing CCTV cameras and checking the boot of a car mindlessly is not an effective way to administer security. We need a better system," said Pillai.
The summit was attended by members of private security agencies.

Issues such as lack of effective training for police personnel, and the need to involve private security firms in the maintenance of security were discussed at the summit.

"We are taking the help of private players in our training material. For example, theoretical modules on cyber crime. These interactions have certainly grown over the years," said Pillai.
