Director Yogendra Konkar says D-5 is a commercial, adult, horror film and even has four songs. There is no mention of any of the accused in the film.

Director Yogi told HT, “The shooting is complete. We have filmed in Jaipur and Mumbai. We could not shoot at Noida as we did not get permission.”

The film is named after the number of the bungalow from where the bones were dug out.

“Raza Murad plays the role of a businessman and Gopal Singh is his servant,” said Konkar. “It is an adult film. If we tried to get a Universal (U) certificate, the truth about the horrific killings would have to be watered down. And that would defeat the very purpose of the film,” the director said.

Asked about legal petitions by Pandher's family against the film, Konkar said: “We have depicted only serial killings and have no intention to defame anybody. It is a purely commercial film.” Actor Raza Murad said: “Ours is democratic country and everybody has freedom of expression.”
