Evading a direct reply on the government formation in Delhi, Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said only the Lieutenant Governor can take a decision in this regard.

“Only the L-G (Najeeb Jung) can say what will be done. Only he can take any decision,” Singh said when asked about the prevailing political situation in Delhi.

Asked what would be the home ministry’s recommendation to the President on the issue, the home minister said, “The President has not sought our advice.”

He, however, refused to comment on allegations of MLA poaching against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday released a video which showed Delhi BJP vice-president Sher Singh Dagar allegedly offering a plum post and money to AAP legislator Dinesh Mohaniya in a bid to help the BJP to take power in Delhi.

Meanwhile, reports suggested Jung is likely to invite the BJP to form the government in the national Capital. Delhi has been under President’s rule since AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal resigned as chief minister February 14 after 49 days in office.

The BJP won 32 seats in the 70-member house but now has 28 legislators after three were elected to the Lok Sabha in the general elections held in April-May.

The party has also got the support of the lone Akali Dal MLA too. The Aam Aadmi Party also had 28 MLAs while the Congress has just eight legislators.

The Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay had earlier said that if the L-G will send an invite, the party will take a shot at government formation.

But “without adopting any unconstitutional means”.
