Load shedding was reported from Mayur Vihar, Ghazipur, Patparganj and neighbouring areas due to repair work at the Ghazipur 220 KV grid that broke down on Monday night.

According to power department officials, the grid is being repaired by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, (UPPCL), which is expected to restore its functioning by the weekend.

“This is constraining the flow of electricity to Delhi Transco’s Ghazipur grid and has been sporadically affecting power supply in parts of east Delhi,” said a BYPL official.

However, to fix the line as soon as possible, Delhi Transco has extended technical support to UPPCL. “A 220 KV ‘jointing kits’ and ‘cable spools’ have been loaned to UPPCL for fixing the problem. The UPPCL is expected to restore the 220 KV line in a couple of days. Till then, load-shedding might be carried out on a rotational basis,” said a Delhi Transco official.

BYPL officials said that the discom is in the process of diverting power from its Akshardham grid to Ghazipur to resolve the issue.
