The victims were rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The police said the condition of one the six men, all daily labourers from Badayun in Uttar Pradesh, had been stated to be critical.

The victims, the police said, were sleeping on a pavement near the CWG parking lot under the Barapullah flyover when the PCR van lost control and ran over them.

The van was being driven by PCR van in-charge Morari Lal, while the driver, constable Yogesh Kumar, was sitting in the back seat.

"Both the officers have been suspended as the designated driver was not driving the vehicle," a senior police officer said.

A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered against the two at the Lodhi Road police station.
