The petition on change.org addressed to vice chancellor Yogesh Tyagi requests him to remove the cap on relaxation. The decision was taken by the admission committee but the V-C is the final deciding authority of the admission policy.

Till last year, the relaxation varied from 1 to 3 %. The petition started by the All India Students Association said such a cap would have a ‘disastrous effect on sex ratio within colleges’.

“It is a common knowledge that the representation of girl students is not optimal. In arts courses, we find that only 30-40% of students are girls and this percentage decreases in science and technical courses. Often, women from deprived background, rural areas could get admission in DU colleges due to the 3% relaxation,” read the petition.

Students who started the petition said that in Bsc Electronics program in Aurobindo College (Morning), there are only four women in a batch of 60. Similarly, even with the relaxation given by Dyal Singh College, women constitute only 40 % of the total strength.

The admission committee said the decision was taken to rationalise on the intake of women.
