PM congratulates Slumdog Millionaire team
creating history at the Oscars, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday said the entire team of the film including musician A R Rahman have done India proud.
The Prime Minister "congratulates A R Rahman, Resul Pookutty (sound engineer), Gulzar (lyricist), and entire Slumdog Millionaire team for the success at the Oscars," a PMO spokesperson said.
Singh said "they have done India proud".
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee also congratulated the Slumdog team on bringing laurels to India by winning the Oscars.
The film bagged eight awards including two Oscars for Rahman for Best Original Score and Best Song for the song "Jai Ho", which was penned by lyricist Gulzar.
Pookutty, a sound technician from Kerala, won the Oscar in the Sound Mixing category. The movie also won the award for Best Film, Best Director for Danny Boyle and Best Adapted Screenplay for Simon Beaufoy.
In a tragic incident, three people working in a chowmein factory in Gajapati district of Odisha died of asphyxiation on Wednesday night after they went to sleep while keeping the chowmein dryer machine turned on. Police officials in Gajapati said the three workers in the chowmein factory at Narayan Nagar of Mohana area had gone to sleep after putting the soggy chowmein noodles to dry in the chowmein dryer machine.
The Hebbal flyover in Bengaluru - known for its traffic congestion - has finally been picked up by city authorities, who have come out with a fresh set of rules. Karnataka logged 1,127 cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, compared to the 839 cases registered the day before. As many as 1,053 of Wednesday's cases were from Bengaluru. Karnataka's cumulative Covid count is 39.75 lakh, with a positivity rate of 4.26%. Bengaluru's 1,053 cases were a big spike over the 775 reported Tuesday. Active cases in the city are 6,056. There are 29 active clusters in Bengaluru, with 26 reporting less than five cases each.
