A city court on Monday asked the Delhi Police to respond to a closure report filed by the CBI giving clean chit to two alleged Al-badr terrorists, saying they were police informers, reports Sumit Saxena.

A city court on Monday asked the Delhi Police to respond to a closure report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) giving clean chit to two alleged Al-badr terrorists, saying they were police informers.

Additional Session Judge S.K. Gautam allowed the Delhi Police to file its objections to the CBI’s closure report after senior public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan submitted on behalf of the former, that the report was verbatim copy of an earlier closure report submitted by the central probe agency that was rejected by the Delhi High Court.

The court fixed December 24 for further hearing when it will consider the objections of the Delhi Police.

The Delhi Police and the CBI have been at the loggerheads over Maorif Qumar and Irshad Ali –– both residents of Delhi –– with the former treating them as Al-badr terrorists and the latter disputing the claim. The CBI said they were just police informers.

Acting on a petition filed by Qumar’s brother, the High Court had handed over the investigations of the case to the CBI in May 2006.
