The encounter took place in a village in tehsil Hodal in district Palwal. The police also recovered two country-made weapons.

The two have been identified as Nitin of Bahin in Hodal and Jagni of Koshikalla in Uttar Pradesh. They had been accused of killing assistant sub inspector Om Prakash while facilitating Singh’s escape, when he was being taken to a Mathura court from Bondsi jail in Gurgaon.

On Sunday evening, a source tipped off the police that three criminals involved in the February 21 incident were going towards Hodal on a motorcycle.

The police intercepted them near Dabcheek. They tried to flee and even opened fire on the cops. The police returned the fire, killing two of them.

“The third criminal managed to flee,” said a police official. The deceased were then shifted to the Palwal district hospital.
